plata by mono on Shopify Checkout is a native monobank integration through the official Shopify Payment Apps API. The order is created after payment. The store does not violate Shopify rules and is protected from blocking.
Why the market waited for exactly this
The Ukrainian Shopify segment lived in compromise for years. Shopify Payments has not launched in Ukraine — and will not in the near future. A whole industry of semi-legal solutions grew in this void: third-party checkouts like Chekly and Wallnut, which completely replaced the standard Shopify Checkout with their own.
All of this worked. It still works now. But all of this was outside Shopify's rules, and the store owner always bore the risk.
plata by mono Checkout is a real way for a Ukrainian store to accept monobank payments on Shopify without violating any platform rules. — a technical fact, not marketing
In our previous article about whether it is legal to use third-party checkout in Shopify, we detailed the legal mechanics: Shopify's official documents explicitly prohibit bypassing the standard Checkout, the API Terms clearly require express written authorization for any alternative to Shopify Checkout, and the App Store requirements forbid apps that bypass checkout or payment processing.
02 — how it worksWhat is Payment Apps API in simple terms
Shopify Payment Apps API is the platform's official mechanism through which Stripe, Adyen, Mollie, and other major acquirers connect in countries where Shopify Payments is available. Shopify Payments is not available in Ukraine, and until recently, there was practically no one to use this API.
The situation has now changed. Through the Payment Apps API in Ukraine, three solutions are connected: plata by mono (monobank), LiqPay (PrivatBank), WayForPay, and Hutko (PUMB). All four are legal, all have passed Shopify review, and all create orders after successful payment.
Payment flow from button to Paid status
What this gives the store
- No pending orders. The order appears in the admin only after monobank confirms receipt of funds. No gap between orders and money.
- Full compatibility with the Shopify ecosystem. Shop Pay works. Shopify Markets works. Bundled Discounts work. Checkout UI Extensions work.
- Protection from blocking. The store complies with clause 4.5 ToS Shopify. No emails from Shopify Trust & Safety.
How it looks for the customer
The customer notices nothing new — and this is the most important part. They do not go to an external site. They do not see a "you are leaving the store" window. They go through the standard Shopify Checkout, which Shopify has optimized for years and which has one of the highest conversion rates in global e-commerce.
customer path
No workarounds. No "trust us, the order will arrive." No parallel interfaces that Shopify does not control.
04 — economicsWhat it really costs
This is the most honest part because the market is used to half-truths. The final commission on Shopify Payment Apps API is formed from four components — and this is the standard worldwide, not just in Ukraine.

Calculation includes Shopify third-party fee (depends on the plan), Shopify platform fee 0.35%, developer commission 0.4%, monobank acquiring 1.3% UA / 2% foreign.

What if I’m already on Wallnut or Chekly?
This is a common question. In short: switch. Longer answer: the economics of switching almost always favor plata by mono Checkout because you eliminate not only legal risk but also technical debt.
What you are paying for third-party checkout right now (even if you don’t see it on the receipt)
Shopify prohibits Checkout alternatives without written permission
Today the store operates, tomorrow a letter arrives from Shopify Trust & Safety. The store owner is the contracting party with Shopify, not the third-party checkout seller. The 100% risk lies with the owner.
Without Shop Pay you lose 10–20% mobile conversion
Customers have already saved data in Shop Pay at other stores — without your support of native Shopify Checkout, they won’t get one-tap payment. Without Shopify Markets — scaling to new markets is difficult.
Orders are imported into Shopify via API — every callback failure is a "lost" order
At a volume of 100+ orders/day, this requires a dedicated staff member who manually reconciles the bank statement with the Shopify admin and manually creates records of missed sales.
Black box: Shopify Analytics does not see what happened on the third-party checkout
Conversion funnel — in an external service. You build traffic source attribution to payment separately. Google Ads and Meta Pixel events through third-party checkouts work unreliably.
Before → after migration to plata by mono Checkout
Switching to plata by mono Checkout takes 1–3 business days. The store does not stop: we set up in test mode, check callbacks on a real order, then switch.
