WayForPay via the Payment Apps API: instalments inside Shopify Checkout

WayForPay connects to Shopify as a native payment method through the official Shopify Payment Apps API. What sets it apart from the other Ukrainian gateways: instalments are available to the customer right at the payment step — monobank «Pay in Parts» (2–25 payments) and PrivatBank «Oplata Chastynamy» (2–12 payments). Setup is ₴17,625 one-time and WayForPay acquiring is 2% on the standard plan.

Instalments inside checkout

Instalments are the single most effective lever for an average order value above ₴3,000: electronics, furniture, jewellery, courses. They are usually bolted on as a separate service on the thank-you page, which means the customer only learns they could pay in instalments after placing the order — that is, after seeing the full amount and possibly leaving.

With the Payment Apps API, instalments sit in the main list of payment methods next to the card option: the customer sees them before confirming the order. The merchant is still paid in full immediately — it is the customer who pays the bank’s interest.

How it works

  1. The customer chooses WayForPay at the payment step of the standard Shopify Checkout.
  2. They pick a method: Visa/Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or instalments (monobank / PrivatBank) with the number of payments.
  3. Once confirmed, the bank transfers the full amount to the merchant and Shopify creates the order marked Paid.

Fees

Cost item Amount
WayForPay acquiring 2% on the standard plan, individual rates at high turnover
Instalments the customer pays the interest; the merchant receives the full amount

What you need to get started

  • A sole proprietor (FOP) or LLC account at any Ukrainian bank and an active WayForPay dashboard
  • A separate application to the bank for the instalment programmes (approved by the bank, not by WayForPay)
  • 1–3 business days for configuration and a test payment

Frequently asked questions

Does the merchant get the money at once or in instalments?

At once and in full. The instalment plan is provided to the customer by the bank, and the bank carries the default risk.

Can I cap the number of payments?

Yes — the merchant sets the maximum, and the customer picks within that range.

Was this solution affected by the script shutdown on 26 August 2026?

No. The Payment Apps API uses neither script tags nor additional scripts — see our article on what changes on 26 August 2026.

Is there a cheaper option?

Yes — WayForPay on the Thank You page from ₴8,800, also with instalment support; the order is created before payment, but Shopify charges no third-party provider fee.
