01 — positioning

Why WayForPay is a separate story in Ukrainian Shopify

If plata by mono wins by rate (1.3% — the lowest in Ukraine), and LiqPay wins Privat24 and brand age, then WayForPay wins by the product matrix of payment methods. This is not a payment gateway of a single bank. It is an aggregator that gathered what the Ukrainian market really uses: classic cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Privat24, and — most importantly — both major installment payment schemes at once.

Installment Purchase from monobank and Installment Payment from PrivatBank are not marketing options. For many categories (electronics, home appliances, furniture, children’s products, cycling, jewelry) this is 30–60% of all sales. If your checkout does not support installment payments — you lose not a small share of turnover, you lose half the market.

WayForPay for Shopify Checkout is the third way. Native. Which did not exist before this year. — and it works within Shopify’s rules

Until recently, there were only two ways for a Shopify store to accept installment payments: on the thank you page (with pending orders and manual moderation) or through a third-party checkout, where Shopify Checkout was completely replaced by a custom one — which directly violated the platform’s rules. More about the legal side in the article about third-party checkout solutions.

02 — through the buyer’s eyes

What exactly the buyer sees on Shopify Checkout

This is the most critical part for conversion. Ukrainian buyers are used to seeing the full list of payment methods on one screen. If even one is missing, some customers close the tab and go to a competitor.

03 — BNPL economics

How much you lose each month without installment payments

This is not a rhetorical question. The calculator below calculates lost turnover by three parameters: current turnover, average check, and the share of categories where installments cover a significant part of sales.

bnpl-effect calculator

What connecting Purchase in Installments + Payment in Installments gives
500,000 ₴
5,000 ₴

The calculation is based on real statistics from stores with an average check of 5,000+ ₴. Connecting Purchase in Installments + Payment in Installments gives a turnover increase of +30–50% due to purchases that previously failed at the checkout stage. The calculator uses a conservative assumption: 70% of the theoretically lost volume returns.

04 — commissions

WayForPay Checkout economics: honest arithmetic

WayForPay historically has a higher base rate than monobank — and this is normal for an aggregator. You pay 0.7 percentage points above monobank acquiring for the ability to have the entire BNPL and Privat24 product matrix under one API.

2,0%

About the commission for installment payment schemes

This is an important point that confuses many. The commission for installments is not WayForPay acquiring. It is a separate fee that the bank (monobank or PrivatBank) charges for providing the credit program to the buyer. Usually, it is 4–7% of the order amount once, depending on the number of payments and the program. The bank charges this commission to the store; the buyer pays only the nominal amount.

It sounds expensive until you calculate in the calculator above how many orders you actually lose without installments.

05 — scenarios

This article is for those who are currently facing a choice

The most common scenarios for which customers come to us for WayForPay Checkout:

scenario 01 · leaving Wallnut

"We are now on Wallnut MultiPayments. Everything works, but managers have started asking questions about pending orders. And we've heard that Shopify is waking up with emails."

our answer If you are on Wallnut MultiPayments — you are on Manual Payment Method, which Shopify clearly did not intend for online acquiring. This is a gray area that worked while the store was small but starts to pressure at scale. Switching to WayForPay Checkout removes legal risk and pending tails at the same time. The switch takes 1–3 business days without stopping the store.
scenario 02 · leaving Chekly

"We are on Chekly because we need installments. Without installments, the store can't survive."

our answer That was the right logic for 2024. Now — outdated. WayForPay Checkout gives you both BNPL programs in native Shopify Checkout. You get rid of third-party checkout (and thus — of direct violation of Shopify rules) and keep installments payment. You don't have to choose between legality and functionality.
scenario 03 · new store

"We are just starting, looking between plata by mono Checkout, LiqPay Checkout, and WayForPay Checkout."

our answer If the average check is up to 3,000 ₴ and you don't need installments — choose plata by mono Checkout (1.3% — the lowest rate). If the check is 3,000–10,000 ₴ and you want Privat24 — LiqPay Checkout. If you sell goods from 5,000 ₴ and installments cover at least 20% of sales in the category — WayForPay Checkout, no alternative.

What works "under the hood"

WayForPay Checkout uses WayForPay Merchant API through Shopify Payment Apps API. No magic — standard server-to-server flow, like Stripe or Adyen.

08 — objections

Common objections and honest answers

“WayForPay’s fee is 2%, and monobank’s is 1.3%. Why pay more?”
The correct comparison is not “2% versus 1.3%,” but “full product range versus one card.” If 30% of sales in your category go through installments, without WayForPay you simply lose that 30%. WayForPay’s monetary efficiency translates into turnover efficiency. The calculator above shows the lost turnover over a year for your specific case.
“What if I only need Privat24, without installments — is it easier to use LiqPay?”
Yes, for this case LiqPay Checkout is the better choice. Privat24 in LiqPay is a native intrabank transfer for PrivatBank clients without card input, instant 24/7. Privat24 is also available in WayForPay but as one of the aggregator’s methods — without the advantages of direct connection.
“Can I connect WayForPay Checkout and LiqPay Checkout simultaneously?”
Yes. At the Payment step, the buyer will see both gateways. A common setup for stores with turnover from ₴500,000/month — WayForPay Checkout as the main (because of installments), LiqPay Checkout as backup (native Privat24 and independence from WayForPay as a single point of failure).
“I already have a separate monobank Installments app on the Thank You Page. If I connect WayForPay Checkout — do I still need it?”
No. WayForPay Checkout includes monobank Installments as one of the aggregator’s methods. A separate app duplicates functionality and creates session confusion (the buyer sees two “monobank installments” options from different paths). It’s better to remove the separate app and keep WayForPay Checkout as the only path for partial payments.
09 — migration

What the transition from Wallnut/Chekly looks like in 7 days

Store downtime — 0 minutes. The old checkout is disabled only after the new one is confirmed launched. Here’s how the transition happens day by day.

day 1 · Monday

Application and audit

Getting access to the Shopify store (Collaborator account), checking the plan, current payment methods, FOP/LLC details. Opening a WayForPay account (if not yet opened) — takes 1 business day in parallel.

day 2 · Tuesday

App installation and setup

Installing the Shopify Payment App, setting up WayForPay details, activating all methods (Visa/Mastercard, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Privat24, both installment programs). Creating webhook endpoints for callbacks.

day 3 · Wednesday

Test mode

Running real test orders (with your card, for a small amount), checking callbacks, refunds, orders with Paid status in the admin panel. Simultaneously setting up fiscalization through Vchasno.Kasa or Checkbox PRRO.

day 4 · Thursday

Switch + the old system still works

We activate WayForPay Checkout as the main payment method. The old Wallnut/Chekly remains in place as a backup for 1 day — for confidence. All new orders go through the native Shopify Checkout.

day 5 · Friday

Disabling the old checkout

After 1 day of successful operation, we disable the third-party checkout. The store is fully on Payment Apps API. We train the support team in a 30-minute call: where to check callback logs, how to do refunds, how to read the BNPL orders report.

day 7+ · after

Support and optimization

We monitor the first week, on the 30th day — a report on BNPL conversion and turnover. If turnover grows by 200+ thousand ₴/month — we help switch WayForPay to an individual tariff (from 1.5%).

10 — faq

Frequently Asked Questions

How to legally enable installment payments on Shopify in Ukraine?
Through WayForPay Shopify Checkout — native integration via the official Shopify Payment Apps API. Supports monobank Buy in Parts and PrivatBank Pay in Parts simultaneously. The store complies with Shopify Terms of Service and is protected from blocking.
WayForPay or plata by mono — which to choose?
plata by mono Checkout — lower acquiring (1.3% UA), MonoPay, requires an account in monobank. Suitable for low average check without the need for installments. WayForPay Checkout — full product matrix: both BNPL programs, Privat24, Apple/Google Pay. Suitable for average check from 5,000 ₴, where installments cover a significant share of sales. Both can be connected simultaneously.
WayForPay Checkout or Wallnut Checkout — what is the difference?
WayForPay Checkout is WayForPay as a payment provider inside the native Shopify Checkout. The store remains fully on Shopify. Wallnut Checkout (as well as Chekly, GetCheckout) is a third-party checkout that completely replaces Shopify Checkout with its own. The store leaves the native Shopify architecture, loses Shop Pay, Shopify Markets, Checkout UI Extensions, and directly violates Shopify rules.
How much does WayForPay Checkout cost on Shopify Basic?
The effective rate is approximately 4.75%: 2.0% WayForPay acquiring + 2% Shopify third-party fee + 0.35% Shopify platform fee + 0.4% developer commission. On Shopify Grow — 3.75%, on Shopify Advanced — 3.35%. Separately — commission for Payment/Buy in Parts schemes (4–7% one-time, charged by the bank).
Are pending orders created during WayForPay Checkout?
No. An order in Shopify is created only after payment confirmation from WayForPay via server-to-server callback. This is a fundamental difference between the Payment Apps API and the Manual Payment Method (which WayForPay Thank You Page and services like Wallnut MultiPayments use).
Is a separate PRRO needed with WayForPay Checkout?
Yes. Shopify Payment Apps API does not include built-in PRRO. Fiscalization is connected separately: Vchasno.Kasa (our development, 5.0 in the App Store) or Checkbox PRRO. The webhook after payment automatically issues a receipt according to the Ukrainian Law on RRO.
How long does the connection take?
1–3 business days after agreement. Includes installing the Shopify Payment App, setting up WayForPay and FOP/LLC details, activating all methods (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Privat24, both parts programs), testing on a real order.
Can you have WayForPay Checkout and plata by mono Checkout simultaneously?
Yes. plata by mono Checkout as the main one (1.3% — the minimum rate for UA cards) + WayForPay Checkout for purchases with payment in parts. At the Payment step, the buyer sees both blocks.
Does WayForPay Checkout support both BNPL programs simultaneously?
Yes. WayForPay as an aggregator supports both major Ukrainian BNPL programs simultaneously — monobank Purchase in Parts (4–24 payments) and PrivatBank Payment in Parts (from 2 to 24 payments). The store receives the full order amount immediately — the credit agreement is held by the bank.
What fee for payment in parts applies to the store?
The fee for payment in parts schemes is a separate bank tariff, not part of WayForPay acquiring. Usually 4–7% of the order amount once, depending on the program and number of payments. The buyer pays only the nominal cost without overpayments. For categories with an average check from ₴5,000, it pays off due to a sales increase of +30–50%.
